World’s First 1TB mSATA SSD Now Available for Pre-Order

Worlds Largest mSATA SSD - Samsung 1TB 840 EVO MZ-MTE1T0BW

The world’s first 1-Terabyte solid state drive in the compact mSATA form factor is now available for pre-order.

B&H Photo Video store offers the Samsung 1TB 840 EVO MZ-MTE1T0BW, currently the largest capacity mSATA SSD, for $615. The drive will greatly expand data storage potential of notebooks equipped with the mSATA interface. Currently mSATA SSD drives have up to 500GB capacity, so Samsung’s new product is a real breakthrough in this field.

The drive takes up much smaller space than the classic 2.5-inch SSDs and hard drives, which is especially important in Ultrabooks and other space constrained laptops. Being around 60% thinner and 90% lighter than an average laptop-use hard disk drive, the 1TB 840 EVO mSATA is actually targeted at these kinds of notebooks.

It is fast too, with 540 MB/s maximal sequential read and 520 MB/s max sequential write speeds. It is based on the Samsung 3-core MEX Controller and comes with 1GB of DRAM cache memory. For security, the part comes equipped with AES 256-bit encryption support. THe MZ-MTE1T0BW is also quite power efficient with an average 0.103-Watt power consumption. The SSD measures only 0.35 oz or 10 grams.

The Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD is already available in smaller capacities of 120, 250 and 500GB.
