Asus Q553UB-BSI7T13 2-in-1 15.6″ Touch Laptop (Intel Core i7, Nvidia 940M GPU, 12GB RAM, 2TB HDD, Black)
The Asus Q553UB-BSI7T13 is a 2-in-1 15.6-inch touch-screen laptop PC with the popular band-back convertible design. The Q553UB-BSI7T13 is a higher-end model with the fast Intel Core i7 processor, a dedicated video card, 12GB of system memory, a huge 2TB hard drive, and a DVD drive, all encased in a black brushed aluminum chassis.
Furthermore, the 5.1-pound notebook is equipped with Full HD display resolution, IPS wide viewing angle technology, and keyboard backlight, rounding off the premium-class features. Another appealing aspect of the Asus Q553UB-BSI7T13 is port selection, since it provides the latest USB-C connector, besides two standard USB 3.0 ports and a USB 2.0 port. Furthermore, the 2-in-1 convertible sports HDMI video output, a combo audio port, and a multi-format media card reader. For sound, there are stereo speakers, while video conferencing is available via a 1-megapixel web camera. Internet connectivity is enabled via 802.11AC wireless or Ethernet LAN. The system also includes a Bluetooth interface.

Performance-wise, the laptop offers more than the average 2016 notebook, especially in the graphics processing department. The included Nvidia GeForce 940M video card with 2GB of video memory is a huge upgrade over the common Intel HD 520 integrated graphics. The 940M is nevertheless just a lower-mid-range dedicated GPU, but still far better than the HD 520 when it comes to game rendering. And use of this kind of a GPU is quite rare in 2-in-1 laptops which by default rely on the basic integrated graphics. Furthermore, the main processor is excellent, too. Included is the 6th Generation Intel Core i7-6500U “Skylake” with two cores and enough computing muscle for fast completion of the daily home and office tasks, plus some potential for demanding media creation and similar duties. 12GB of system memory is more than enough for all scenarios an average user may encounter. You won’t have to worry about insufficient memory while running multiple web browser tabs and apps at the same time. The included 2TB HDD storage capacity is also on the higher-end, since common laptops usually have 500GB, only a quarter of 2TB. The only important downside related to performance is hard drive technology itself, since it greatly lags behind solid state storage in terms of performance.
The specs sheet of the Asus Q553UB-BSI7T13 list a 3-cell battery, but there’s no info on battery life.

If I’m watching movies with the brightness all the way up I can watch about 3 hours of worth of steady DVD player based movies. Streaming requires more power and will leave me close to about 2 or 2 1/2 hours of battery life. If i’m just listening to music and typing up reports, offline – i can get close to 4 hours of battery life which is perfect for killing time at an airport.
Honestly, I’ve had this laptop for 4 years now with ZERO issues. I am a gamer and use it daily to game and still take it everywhere I go for other things. Consider the the strength and versatility of this laptop when considering the lack of battery life.

Hello Matt, have you made any changes to the laptop? I have had mine for the same amount of time, and the battery is shit. I’m preparing to swap the HDD, as I found a good deal on an SSD. I am just curious to see if you have upgraded to SSD, and your opinion of the results if you have. I appreciate any feedback you have.

Does it have blue ray?

No, it doesn’t support Blu-ray. The built-in optical drive only supports CD and DVD reading and writing. You’ll need an external Blu-ray drive for that.
