Dell G5 15 5590 / G5590 15.6″ Gaming Laptop
The Dell G5 15 5590 or G5590 is a mid-tier member of Dell’s G-series gaming notebook lineup. The G5 15 5590 / G5590 features a 15.6-inch screen, Intel processor options, and Nvidia GeForce dedicated video card options.
The laptop comes with Full HD resolution on its IPS wide-viewing-angle display. As an additional feature, customers can choose a high screen refresh rate of 144 Hz, which makes movements on the screen smoother than with the standard 60 Hz refresh rate.
But the notebook’s video card is still the most important part for gameplay smoothness. Dell offers three video card options in the G5 15 5590. The cheapest one is the GeForce GTX 1650 4GB, which is a lower-mid-range video card. The upper-mid-range GTX 1660 Ti 6GB is the second option. Finally, there’s the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 6GB. It belongs to the high-end RTX 2000 series. Besides great performance, it provides ray-tracing technology for more realistic visual effects in games. You can play all the latest game with any of these three cards, but some very hardware-intensive games may require you to dial down graphics detail settings, especially on the GTX 1650 and 1660 Ti.
For main computing, the Dell G5 15 5590 / G5590 utilizes either the quad-core Intel Core i5-9300H or faster six-core i7-9750H processor. Both of these are very powerful processors. They can enable comfortable gaming and other computing tasks, including heavy ones like video editing. Of course, the i7-9750H option is recommended for the best performance.
The system memory (RAM) options are 8GB and 16GB. The larger size is recommended for worry-free gaming, because some of the heavier games require more than 8GB. We applaud Dell for delivering dual-channel memory setups with both 8GB and 16GB options, so performance won’t be affected by slower single-channel RAM.
Data storage device options include combinations of a 1 Terabyte hard drive and either a 128GB or 256GB solid state drive. Or, customers who want the best storage performance can choose pure solid state drive storage with capacities of 512GB or 1 Terabyte.
The G3 15 5590 / G5590 has a 60 WHr battery capacity. It’s generally a very decent capacity, but since the notebook features powerful components, you can’t expect an extraordinary battery life with the 5590.
Besides the G5, Dell also offers the similar but cheaper G3 3590 / G3590 series gaming laptop. As the main differences, the G3 lacks the 144 Hz refresh rate option and the RTX video card option. The top of the G-series lineup belongs to the G7. As stand-out features, the G7 delivers the top-tier RTX 2080 graphics option and 240 Hz screen refresh rate.
