Dell Inspiron 15 i5558-5718SLV Signature Edition Laptop
The Dell Inspiron 15 i5558-5718SLV Signature Edition Laptop is a robustly equipped 15.6-inch touch-enabled notebook PC. Besides the full-size multi-touch display with crispy Full HD 1920×1080 resolution, the i5558-5718SLV Signature Edition also sports a backlit keyboard, good internal components, and the latest Windows 10 OS.
Computing is powered by the mid-range Intel Core i5-4210U dual-core processor. True, the i5-4210U is an old 4th Generation “Haswell” laptop CPU, released back in 2014. It isn’t as fast and power efficient as the 5th and 6th Gen i5 counterparts. Nevertheless, the i5-4210U with its Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics performs excellent during the usual daily tasks of the average user. It can be even used for some light gaming and demanding work like professional photo editing or video publishing, but these tasks still remain in the domain of faster laptops with Core i7 quad-core processors and dedicated video cards. System memory and hard drive capacities, which are responsible for multitasking and data storage, are generous too. Dell’s i5558-5718SLV has 8GB of memory, and a 1-Terabyte hard disk, both with double capacity than in the budget-class 4GB/500GB notebooks. A DVD writer drive is present, too, rounding off the admirable set of main components.
The laptop also includes a pair of stereo speakers with 2 x 2W output power and Waves MaxxAudio sound optimizations, as well as a 720p HD web-chat camera, 802.11AC wireless, Ethernet LAN wired, and Bluetooth connections, HDMI external display output, one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, an SD media card reader, and a microphone / headphones 2-in-1 audio port.
Although Dell hasn’t provided info on battery life, a power autonomy of four-to-five hours can be expected.
The laptop weighs in at 5.5 pounds and is 0.9″ thick.
As for the Signature Edition label, it basically means the notebook has a clean Windows 10 installation. It is free of annoying pre-installed third party programs, which can cause long system boot-up times and weak responsiveness.

Great laptop for everyday use and some moderate gaming. It is reliable, lightweight, and fairly fast with base specs. I’ve upgraded the ram to 16GB and it runs multiple programs simultaneously very well with the upgraded ram. Not the biggest fan of windows 10 but besides that, no complaints.

I purchased 2 of these computers for Christmas presents last year. Within the 1 year warranty period, we have gone through 5 hard drives, 1 mother board, 2 charger cables. Now that the warranty is over (by only 1 week) the display on one of the laptops has failed ($250 quote from Dell support).

The camera of this laptop isn’t 3D, so Hello is not supported on the device, although Windows 10 supports it.
Peter –
Is that computer (Dell Inspiron 15 i5558-5718SLV Signature Edition) good enough to support 3D modeling software, like pro-engineer / Inventor ?

Can you tell what versions of these programs you plan to use? But, generally, laptops with dedicated graphics cards will run these programs better than this Inspiron model with integrated Intel HD graphics only.
Miguel –
Actually i m using it and runing latest inventor pro, and it works prety well even with an assambly of 1500 parts

I have ordered this product during thanks giving day sale and awaiting its delivery.
Meanwhile could you let me know whether this supports the latest version of FIFA and similar games and also whether its compatible with Logitech F710 gamepad controller.

Danijel Z –
Take a look at this FIFA 16 gameplay on the Intel HD 4400: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7omSByQQE_k
The Intel HD 4400 in the Dell i5558-5718SLV appears to be able to run FIFA, but on the lowest graphics settings and frame rates up to 30 fps.
It’s recorded with the Surface Pro 2, but this laptop has the same GPU, so performance should be similar.
For other games, search Intel HD 4400 [your game] on YouTube.
I’ve just saw Windows 10 64-bit drivers for the Logitech F710 are available, so it is compatible with this laptop which runs Win 10 64-bit.
Amanda –
Is this a 64-bit or 32-bit?
Notify me of replies Unwatch this thread
Danijel Z –
It’s 64-bit.
Adam –
Is the processor from i3 to something like an i5 up-gradable or is it permanently in the computer?
Notify me of replies Unwatch this thread
Danijel Z –
The processor is soldered onto the motherboard and therefore not upgradeable. Only select high-end laptops on the market have replaceable CPUs.

Is the computer good for Minecraft and GTA V
Notify me of replies Unwatch this thread
Danijel Z –
Minecraft is playable on the Intel HD 4400 GPU of the i5558-5718SLV, but with lowered graphics settings. Its GPU can deliver more than 30fps in that case, which is reasonably smooth. I’ve never played GTA 5 on this GPU, but I’ve seen YouTube videos showing gameplay at up to 30fps on 800×600 resolution and the lowest settings.

Your mentions: Signature Edition also sports a backlit keyboard, good internal components, and the latest Windows 10 OS. –

Can you tell me which is the accurate description for the keyboard?
thanks.

Please contact Microsoft Store for an official answer. As far as I know, Dell Inspiron laptops are covered internationally only if you purchase a special warranty package available via Dell’s official site.
