The HP Pavilion x2 13-r100dx is a 13.3-inch 2-in-1 laptop/tablet hybrid Windows PC with a detachable keyboard. This model (at least the one sold at Best Buy) is unique because of provided support for 4G mobile broadband connectivity. It’s compatible with Verizon’s 4G LTE network and purchase requires a 2-year data plan agreement. On the other side, it is $150 cheaper than the non-4G variant, so the price of $450 is subsidized.

The Pavilion x2 13-r100dx is equipped with the Intel Core i3-4012Y dual-core processor, optimized for power efficiency. It doesn’t mean too weak performance in this case. The chip is a lower-mid-range part, which easily completes the daily web, office, and multimedia playback tasks. It’s however not recommended for complex stuff such as video creation or modern 3D gaming.

The display has a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. That’s a quite low pixel count in comparison to many smaller and more affordable tablets with sharper displays enabled by 1920×1080 Full HD or higher resolutions. On the positive side, the panel is backed by IPS technology, ensuring wide viewing angles.

One would expect this kind of device to have a fast solid state drive inside, but the 13-r100dx actually comes with a hard drive. It has a capacity of 500GB and isn’t so slow as the average HDDs, because this one has 8GB of Flash memory on it for faster programs and files loading. RAM memory is 4GB, which is a mediocre size but still large enough for all realistic multitasking scenarios.

13-r100dx

The device is outfitted with stereo speakers backed by Beats Audio technology. There’s one camera on the device, on the front side, Wi-Fi AC wireless and Bluetooth interfaces, and a microSD card slot on the tablet. The keyboard dock includes two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI video output, and a multiformat reader supporting larger SD cards.

The keyboard deck is silver with white keyboard keys on it, while the lid of the screen is white. The whole device weighs 4.3 pounds. The tablet and keyboard weigh 2.4 and 1.9 pounds and are 0.5″ and 0.4″ thick, respectively.

I saw this model (13-R100DX) at Best Buy. I like it because it is not just a tablet – you don’t have to pay for an extra keyboard, and it has all the slots (USB, etc.) that I need. Therefore, it’s basically just a small computer which is what I’ve been looking for! However, I have not been able to find any information on the “Split x2” Verizon feature, even on Verizon’s Web site. Anyone know the 411 on this? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Yeah, it’s really weird… Only Best Buy offers the device with a Verizon contract, without info on the product page about data plans, whether the x2 has a SIM card slot built-in or uses an external Verizon router / modem, etc. I think it’s best to contact Best Buy directly. There’s a “CHAT NOW” button on the right edge of product page and this is their phone 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289). Hope this helps a bit.

Has a Sim card slot on the tablet portion. Love this device for what it is, it’s an affordable notebook and big tablet when I choose it to be.
