Alienware Area-51 m17x Gaming Laptop Launched
The Alienware Area-51 m17x 17-inch gaming laptop is now available. The notebook sports dual Nvidia GeForce video cards, up to 1TB of storage space, and Intel Core 2 Extreme processors.
The m17x features a 17″ display supporting 1080p (1920-by-1200 pixels) high definition resolution. The screen is managed by dual Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX, 8700M GT or 8600M GT dedicated graphics cards operating in SLI mode. The laptop comes with a 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Extreme processor, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, and up to 1000GB of hard drive capacity using two 500GB HDD units. In addition, a hot-swappable third hard drive can be inserted into SmartBay, which is populated by default with a DVD burner or Blu-ray optical drive. This system is also configurable with a 64GB solid state drive and 1GB Intel Turbo Memory.
Alienware Releases RC1 BIOS Update for m15x
Alienware released the Release Candidate 1 version of the X32 BIOS for its Area-51 m15x 15.4-inch gaming notebook. The RC1 resolves any remaining performance issues left open by the previous X30 beta version, the company has announced.
The resolved problems in the m15x are related to its video card getting too hot and downclocking to reduce temperature, which also reduced gaming performance.
Toshiba Satellite X205-SLI5, X205-SLI6 Gaming Laptops Unveiled
Toshiba’s new 17-inch gaming notebooks - the Satellite X205-SLI5 and Satellite X205-SLI6 - are now available for purchase. These laptops feature dual Nvidia GeForce graphics, as well as faster Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” processors and more memory than in the previous SLI2 and SLI4 models.
The both preconfigured systems include two NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics cards in SLI mode, providing 512MB of GDDR3 dedicated video memory.
Alienware Releases Beta BIOS to Resolve Problems in m15x
Alienware has created and will distribute a beta BIOS update for its Area-51 m15x gaming notebook, in order to resolve overheating and performance problems reported by users.
While playing games, the video card in the m15x with the default BIOS version overheats after a certain period of time and then underclocks to keep itself cool, resulting in unsatisfactory gaming performance, according to forum posts at NotebookReview.
Asus G70 Gaming Laptop with Dual GPUs Showcased
Asustek showcases at the ongoing 2008 CeBIT expo in Germany the Asus G70, its new 17-inch gaming notebook, which features dual Nvidia GeForce video cards.
According to SlashGear’s report, the G70 incorporates “Intel’s latest Core 2 Duo processor” and two GeForce 8700M GS GPUs in SLI setup. The notebook sports dual hard drives and up to 4GB of system memory. However, earlier announcement says it supports up to 8GB of RAM.
Clevo Introduces M860TU, M570TU Gaming Laptops
Clevo, a Taiwanese OEM notebook company, has introduced its M860TU and M570TU gaming laptops at the ongoing 2008 CeBIT show in Germany.
The Clevo M860TU features a 15.4-inch display with a resolution of 1900-by-1200 pixels and Intel’s “new generation” of chipset, processor, and wireless connection, most likely as parts of the upcoming “Montevina” Centrino 2 mobile platform. There are also the Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX 512MB video card, a HDMI output, e-SATA port, HSDPA 3.5G mobile broadband support, a built-in web camera, and a fingerprint reader accompanied by the Trusted Platform Module.
Dell Adds Penryn CPU Options to XPS M1730 Gaming Laptop
Dell Inc. now offers Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” 45-nanometer processors as options in its select XPS M1730 gaming laptop configurations for the U.S. market.
The 17-inch M1730 is now available with the Core 2 Duo T8300 and T9300 45nm CPUs, clocked at 2.4GHz and 2.5GHz respectively. The basic configuration, priced at $2,399, includes the T8300 chip. Selection of the T9300 adds $125 to the base price, but it is still cheaper than older 65nm Core 2 Duo T7800 and Core 2 Extreme X7900 options with + $400 and + $750 price tags.
Toshiba Introduces Satellite X205-SLI2, SLI4 Gaming Laptops
The Toshiba Satellite X205-SLI2 and Satellite X205-SLI4 notebooks are now available for purchase. These 17-inch gaming laptops feature dual Nvidia GeForce graphics and the new Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” 45nm processor.
Both preconfigured systems include the Core 2 Duo T8100 “Penryn” CPU at 2.1GHz and two NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics cards in SLI, providing 512MB of GDDR3 dedicated video memory. These laptops incorporate two 160GB 5,400rpm hard drives for a total of 320GB, and a HD DVD optical drive with DVD writing capability.
Dell XPS M1730 Now with GeForce 8800M GTX SLI Option
The Dell XPS M1730 gaming notebook is now available with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX SLI dual graphics card option.
Dell’s performance team says the XPS M1730 with two GeForce 8800M GTX 512MB video cards earned a score of almost 13,500 in 3Dmark06 benchmark, which is about 49% performance gain over dual 8700M GT 512MB cards in the same notebook.
HP Pavilion HDX Now with Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTS Option
Hewlett-Packard has updated this week the HP Pavilion HDX entertainment and gaming notebook with a new graphic card option.
The Pavilion HDX, which was available only with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB video card, is now also configurable with the Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTS 512MB GPU.
Gateway P-6831FX Gaming Laptop Now Available
The Gateway P-6831FX, the company’s new 17-inch gaming laptop which features the Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTS video card, is now available for purchase.
Customers can order the P-6831FX for $1,349.99 through Best Buy. This notebook, which is a part of the new P-Series FX Edition line, features the Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 processor at 1.67GHz, 3GB of DDR2 system memory, a 250GB hard drive, and a DVD burner. The GeForce 8800M GTS high end GPU in the Gateway P-6831FX has 512MB of discrete GDDR3 video memory and manages a 17″ 1280-by-800 display.

The recently announced Area-51 m15x gaming laptop is based on the Intel PM956 chipset and comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Extreme mobile processor, depending on customer’s choice. The incorporated Nvidia’s top of the line GeForce 8800M GTX mobile graphics card has 512MB of dedicated video memory. The “world’s fastest notebook GPU” is compatible with DirectX 10 games and manages the notebook’s 15.4″ 1920-by-1200 or 1440-by-900 widescreen display.
Asus G2Sg Laptop Features Penryn CPU, GeForce 8700M GT
Asustek has published details of the upcoming Asus G2Sg, their fist product in the G2S 17-inch gaming notebook series to feature the new 45-nanometer Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” processor and the Nvidia GeForce 8700M video card.
The Asus G2Sg incorporates the Core 2 Duo T8100, T8300, T9300 or T9500 “Penryn” CPU, with speeds ranging from 2.1 GHz to 2.6 GHz. Instead of the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics card with 256MB of dedicated video memory, utilized in previous G2S laptops, the G2Sg comes with the GeForce 8700M GT 512MB GPU. This graphics solution manages the notebook’s 17″ glossy display which has a resoluton of 1920-by-1200 or 1440-by-900 pixels, depending on model.
Asus Showcases Penryn-Based Laptops
Asus showcases the company’s first notebooks based on the Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” processor at the ongoing 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The Intel “Penryn” CPUs, produced using new 45-nanometer technology, can be found in the Asus Lamborghini Mini VX3 ultraportable, the Asus Lamborghini VX2Sn, Asus M51Sr, and F8p notebooks, and in the G70 and G1Sn gaming laptops.

Gateway has unveiled the P-Series FX Edition 17-inch notebooks, designed for gaming, digital media, and other advanced applications.
The P-Series FX notebook line features Intel Centrino technology and Core 2 Duo/Core 2 Extreme processors, the NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS 512MB GDDR3 dedicated graphics solution, as well as HDMI and eSATA ports.
