Toshiba Satellite E45T-B4106 14″ Touchscreen Laptop with Intel i5 CPU

The Toshiba Satellite E45T-B4106 is a 14-inch touchscreen laptop with good specifications. It features Intel’s latest processing technology, large system memory and storage capacities, and a high-resolution display, all packed in an attractive aluminum chassis with sleek appearance.

The system is built upon the Intel Core i5-5200U dual-core processor we reviewed recently. It provides excellent performance for the daily home and office tasks, although it isn’t mind-blowing fast like the quad-core Intel Core i7 chips. The i5-5200U is a great tool for photo and video editing, too. But, if you do these as your profession, getting a quad-core i7 is recommended. On the other hand the i5 has better thermal and power consumption specs, so it is suitable for thin notebooks like Toshiba’s E45T-B4106. The i5-5200U incorporates the Intel HD 5500 integrated graphics processor, which can be used for entry-level gaming as described in the review here. As for RAM, there’s 8 Gigabytes of it, which is sufficient for heavy multitasking. The hard drive is spacious too. It has a capacity of 1 Terabyte, but rotates at a standard and sluggish 5,400rpm speed. It is much slower than any solid state drive.

The multi-touch display has a Full HD resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels.

The keyboard lacks a dedicated numeric pad found on larger 15.6-inch notebooks, but thankfully keyboard backlight is present. The spacious trackpad has click buttons integrated in the surface. The rest of the spec sheet is conventional fare for a mainstream Windows laptop, except the missing DVD drive. The E45T-B4106 features Wi-Fi with support for fast 802.11AC wireless standard, Gigabit Ethernet LAN network interface, three USB ports, HDMI video output jack, Intel’s Wi-Di technology for wireless video output, a multi-format media card reader, and Bluetooth.

The included 4-cell battery has a capacity of 45Whr. Toshiba claims the battery life can last up to 6 hours and 19 minutes.

This aluminum-skinned notebook draws attention with it’s luxurious appearance and feel, without being gaudy. The brushed metal finish is painted with “satin gold” color. The chassis is 0.9″ thick. The whole notebook weighs in at 4.5 pounds, which isn’t insanely light, but noticeably lighter than the common 15.6-inch notebooks.
