The First Dell XPS M1730 Now Available; Priced at $2,999

Dell XPS M1730The long awaited Dell XPS M1730 17-inch gaming notebook is now available for purchase through the company’s website. Priced at $2,999, the first offered M1730 configuration features an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, dual NVIDIA GeForce 8700M graphics cards in SLI mode, and a physics processing unit.

The Dell XPS M1730, advertised as the “Beast“, is based on the Intel “Santa Rosa” platform with the PM965 chipset. The available M1730 configuration incorporates the Core 2 Duo T7700 processor with a 2.4GHz clock speed and an 800MHz front side bus. The two built-in GeForce 8700M cards, managing the 17″ widescreen glossy display with a resolution of 1920-by-1200 pixels, provide a total of 512MB dedicated video memory. This laptop is the world’s first to have a built in physics processing unit. It’s the AGEIA PhysX 100M, “dedicated solely to delivering rich immersive physical gaming environments”.

The offered M1730 comes with 2GB of DDR2 system memory at 667MHz and supports up to 4GB of RAM. It is equipped with a 200GB SATA Hard Drive at 7200rpm, a DVD burner, and the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g module.

According to the previous reports, the notebook will be also configurable with an additional hard drive, solid state drives, a Blu-Ray drive, and various wireless options, as well as with other Core 2 Duos and the Core 2 Extreme X7800 and X7900 processors. The NVIDIA GeForce 8800M option is also rumored.

With a 9-cell battery, the Dell XPS M1730’s weight starts at 10.6 pounds. It has a 2-inch thick chassis. The introduced $2,999 laptop has the Sapphire Blue lid color, while the Karmosin Red, Bone White, and Smoke Grey options are expected to become available on other M1730 configurations.

The e-mail we have received from Dell says the offered XPS M1730 configuration ships immediately in the United States.

The preinstalled operating system on this notebook is Windows Vista Home Premium Edition.

  1. Dell US (.com) does not have the 1730 listed at all. Maybe u should publish stories and actually prove what u say..providing a link link most other sites do.
