The 15.6-inch NV55C56U is normally priced at $350. It has an Intel Core i3 processor, but it is not from the latest Sandy Bridge family. The CPU is an older “Arrandale” Core i3-370M, clocked at 2.4GHz. Its performance in benchmarks is usually rated between the “Sandy Bridge”-based Pentium B-series and Core i3 chips. The notebook comes with Intel HD integrated GPU only, 4GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive and has all the features of a standard laptop: built-in DVD burner, 1366 x 768 screen resolution, a 1.3MP web camera, Wi-Fi, three USB ports, HDMI output, a six-cell battery for “up to 4 hours” of operation on a single charge.

Other features of the Gateway NV55C56U include a 2-in-1 media card reader, Gigabit LAN, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS.

The laptop measures 1.3 inches in profile when closed and weighs 5.7 pounds.

  1. can anyone give some input, with the price of this being released at $329, is it worth the extra money over the lenovo at $179?

    • The Core i3 CPU in the NV55C56U is faster than the AMD E-300 Fusion chip in the Lenovo G575-438343U and also you have larger RAM and HDD in the Gateway. For comparison, the Core i3-370M in the PassMark benchmark has 2220 points, while the AMD E-300 has 602 points. But, in some less demanding tasks, such as web browsing, e-mail, and text editing, the difference may be small, despite big differences in benchmarks. You may experience greater difference in more hardware intensive tasks, such as photo and video editing, file compression and decompression, etc.
