HP Unveils EliteBook 2540p Business Ultraportable

HP EliteBook 2540pHP unveiled today the EliteBook 2540p business-class ultraportable, “the company’s lightest EliteBook notebook PC”.

Starting at 3.3-pounds, the 12.1-inch HP EliteBook 2540p incorporates standard voltage Core i5 and i7 processors for full CPU performance or a power-saving low voltage Core i7 model, as well as Intel HD integrated graphics and up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM.

According to the product specs sheet, the standard voltage 2540p configurations include a 2.5-inch HDD with a capacity of up to 500GB or a 2.5″ solid state drive, up to 160GB. The low voltage configurations come with 1.8-inch HDDs and SSDs in capacities up to 320GB and up to 160GB, respectively. The LV models also have a built-in optical bay, which can be populated with a DVD burner or a secondary 2.5″ HDD, or left empty.

The 12.1″ anti-glare display has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels and LED backlight.

Regarding connectivity, the new EliteBook ultraportable has 802.11n wireless, Bluetooth, the optional HP un2420 EV-DO/HSPA mobile broadband module, an Ethernet LAN port and a 56k modem.

There are also a 2MP web camera and microphone, stereo speakers, a spill-resistant keyboard, dual pointing devices (touchpad with scroll zone and pointstick), DisplayPort and VGA outputs, ExpressCard and Secure Digital slots, a Firewire port and three USB ports, with fourth USB available in the standard voltage 2540p models.

Battery options include a three-cell battery that provides “up to 4 hours” of run time, a six-cell battery that provides “up to 8.5 hours”, and a nine-cell battery for “up to 12.5 hours”.

The HP EliteBook 2540p meets the MIL-STD 810G military-standards for vibration, dust, humidity, altitude, and high and low temperatures.

The laptop runs Windows 7 OS.

It starts at $1,099 and is expected to be available in the United States next month.
