Dell Latitude D630The new 14.1-inch Dell Latitude D630 business laptop based on Intel’s Centrino “Santa Rosa” platform, features improved performance and battery life, as well as an optional wireless N connectivity, solid state drive (SSD), hybrid hard drive (H-HDD), and Intel TurboMemory options, the PC maker announced.

Dell claims that the D630 has increased performance over the previous D620 generation by up to 15 percent and features up to 9.4 hours of battery life with 9-cell battery.

The Latitude D630 is configurable with Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7100 (1.8GHz), T7300 (2.0GHz), T7500 (2.2GHz) or T7700 (2.4GHz), all with 800MHz front side bus. The notebook features Intel GM965 chipset with integrated Mobile Intel GMA X3100 graphics or PM965 chipset paired with NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M dedicated video card, depending on model. Its 14.1-inch widescreen display, “up to 38 percent brighter than the previous generation of notebooks”, is offered with 1280×800 or 1440×900 resolution options. Dell Latitude D630 supports up to 4GB of main DDR2 memory and comes with an optional Intel Turbo Memory “Robson” 1GB card for increased system responsiveness. It ships with up to 160GB hard drive and CD-ROM, Combo Drive or DVD burner. Currently, there is no information on availability date of solid state drive and hybrid hard drive options.

Along with an optional Wi-Fi card providing next-gen IEEE 802.11n draft wireless connectivity and an optional Bluetooth, Dell Latitude D630 also has a built-in Gigabit Ethernet, a standard a/b/g/ Wi-Fi, an optional Bluetooth, and a 56k modem. There are options of Dell Wireless 5520 Mobile Broadband (HSDPA 3.6) Mini-Card with service from AT&T, and Dell Wireless 5720 Mobile Broadband (EVDO Rev A) Mini-Card with service from Verizon, Sprint and Telus (Canada).

Regarding security, it has integrated smart card and biometric readers, Trusted Platform Module 1.2 and shock protected and fully encrypted hard drives.

Regarding ports and slots, there are four USB ports, VGA output, COM port, Firewire port and PCMCIA card slot.

With a starting weight of 4.5 pounds, Dell Latitude D630 features magnesium alloy construction.

It is priced from $1,189 and comes with Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional operating system.
