Lenovo ThinkPad W700 Unveiled

Lenovo ThinkPad W700Lenovo has announced their first 17-inch business-class laptop – the ThinkPad W700 mobile workstation – featuring the industry’s first palm-rest digitizer and built-in color calibrator, Nvidia’s Quadro FX graphics, and Intel Centrino 2 technology.

The Wacom digitizer with pen and the X-Rite PANTONE calibrator in the biggest ThinkPad yet are optional.

“Designed for digital content creators and users, the mobile workstation’s digitizer helps them easily configure an image, either mapping it to the entire screen or to an area defined by the user. High performance users, especially digital photographers, will benefit from models with the built-in color calibrator as color continues to play an important role in their work. The calibrator automatically adjusts the display’s color in up to half the time of many external calibrators and with higher accuracy, resulting in the most accurate, true-to-life images in an integrated package,” Lenovo explains.

The Lenovo ThinkPad W700 offers both the NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M and 3700M Open GL video cards with up to 1 GB of dedicated graphics memory, a choice of Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Extreme CPU, up to 8GB of DDR3 system memory, single or dual hard drives or solid state drives (RAID 0, 1) for up to 640GB HDD and 128GB SSD storage, and a DVD or Blu-Ray burner. Lenovo says the notebook supports upcoming Intel’s quad core mobile processors.

Its widescreen display has a resolution of 1440×900 or 1920×1200 pixels, depending on customers choice.

The mobile workstation also includes optionally built-in fingerprint reader, Intel Turbo Memory 2GB module and 1.3 megapixel web camera, as well as Intel WiFi Link 5300 supporting 802.11n wireless starndard, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, Bluetooth, and optional mobile broadband connectivity.

The W700 has Dual Link DVI, Display Port, and VGA outputs, five USB ports, a 7-in-1 media card reader, an ExpressCard slot, and optional Compact Flash and Smart Card readers.

The laptop runs Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit OS.

Starting at $2,949, the Lenovo ThinkPad W700 is avilable for purchase now at Lenovo.com. It ships within 2-3 weeks, the PC maker says.
