The Asus ROG GL552VW, with its GL552VW-DH71 and GL552VW-DH74 versions, is yet another 15.6-inch gaming laptop. With its specs it doesn’t stand out from the crowd of similar sub-$1,000 gaming notebooks, such as the Dell 7559, HP Pavilion 15t-ak000, or Lenovo Y700. It has Full HD display resolution, IPS wide viewing angle technology, the mid-range Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M dedicated video card, Intel’s high-performance Core i7-6700HQ quad core processor, and generous DDR4-type system memory of 16 Gigabytes. The GL552VW-DH71 comes with 2GB of video memory on the GeForce GTX 960M GPU and a 1-Terabyte hard drive spinning at 7,200 rpm. On the other side, the GTX 960M of the GL552VW-DH74 includes 4GB VRAM and the laptop additionally features a 128GB solid state drive besides the 1TB HDD.
As expected, the Asus ROG GL552VW-DH71 does have backlight beneath its chiclet-style keyboard keys. The notebook also includes a built-in DVD writer optical drive, stereo speakers, a 720p web camera, 802.11AC Wi-Fi wireless and Ethernet LAN wired Internet and LAN connections, HDMI video output, three USB 3.0 ports, one new USB-C type port, a memory card reader, and a combo audio jack.
The included 48 WHr battery is able to provide up to five hours of run time on a single charge, according to Asus.
Outwardly, the 5.6-pound GL552VW-DH71 with a 1.3″ thick profile has a design inspired by the F22 Stealth fighter and sports a brushed aluminum display lid.
