The HP 15-BS115DX is a 500-dollar mainstream laptop with touch-screen display and excellent computing performance. The 15.6-inch screen of the HP 15-BS115DX features HD 1366-by-768 resolution. The panel is based on TN technology, so it doesn’t have as wide viewing angles as IPS displays. This and lack of Full HD picture sharpness mean the screen is just another budget panel, but with added touch functionality. Inside, the HP 15-BS115DX boasts the Intel Core i5-8250U processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 1-Terabyte hard drive. The i5-8250U is definitely the best selling point of the laptop. With its four cores, it is currently among the most powerful mainstream laptop CPUs. It is perfectly suitable for the daily computing chores and even some advanced tasks like video editing. You can read our review of it here. The CPU features Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics we reviewed recently. In short, the UHD 620 can play many of the popular game titles. For integrated graphics performance its beneficial to have dual-channel system memory (RAM). Unfortunately, the HP 15-BS115DX comes with one single-channel RAM module (with a decent capacity of 8GB). To enable dual-channel memory, you’ll need to add another RAM stick. The 15-BS115DX has two RAM slots, but this part of the laptop is marked in the official manual as “non-customer-accessible / upgradable”. Hard drive storage size of 1-Terabyte is typical for a 500-dollar laptop and provides ample of space for users’ files. On the other hand, it runs noticeably slower than any solid state drive.

The “jet black” plastic-clad machine includes a 3-cell battery with a quite low capacity of 31 WHr. This means you can’t expect a mind-blowing battery life. It will most likely be up to around 4 hours with moderate computing load. In some specs sheets, the battery life of the 15-BS115DX is rated at 8.25 hours, but that’s most likely achieved in some kind of idle computing mode.

The HP 15-BS115DX sports all most necessary networking and connectivity features. They’re listed under the Specifications tab on this page.

I like this computer a lot, I bought it at Best Buy over a year ago and it works really well, although like someone else mentioned the speakers are not that good, I have to use a External Bluetooth speaker to hear anything. Other then that it is a decent computer.

I bought this laptop from Best Buy in April. The only thing I wanted to use it for was surfing the internet, online purchases, etc. I’m not a heavy computer user. No gaming, no video editing. Just a very basic light user. This computer is absolutely terrible even for the few things I bought it to do. The mouse pad click buttons don’t always work. I have to click multiple times to open or close windows, open links etc. Using the internet with this is a pain in the butt. Pages open extreeeeemely slowly, and sometimes not at all. When I’m on Twitter, I can’t scroll down to see the other tweets in my feed. The wheel by the address bar just keeps spinning. The internet will just cut out sometimes, so I’ll have to reconnect. (It’s not an issue with my internet service provider or my router. I only have this issue with this computer.) When I’m only YouTube sometimes I see white spots on the videos, and sometimes I see a blinking white horizontal line across my entire screen. Also the speakers on this computer are the worst speakers I’ve had on any computer I’ve ever owned.

I trid to return the computer but I missed the return deadline. So I contacted HP support for help. I was on the phone with them for over an hour troubleshooting and testing. They said they fixed the mouse issue, but the problem persists. When I told them about the issue with the internet cutting out, they said the problem is my internet service provider, not the computer. I told them I only have this issue with this laptop, but they refused to accept that the problem was the laptop. When I told them webpages are loading very slowly or not at all, they said they can’t control how the laptop performs on 3rd party websites. (Aren’t all non-HP websites 3rd party websites? So they can only guarantee that the internet will work on their site?!) I told them I was having issues scrolling down on Twitter, and that there was a white line going across my screen while on Youtube, and they told me that sometimes there are viruses on various websites, and that’s why I was having problems! What?!!! Again, I’m only having the issue on this laptop. Not my Asus or my smart phone. They offered to transfer me to their customer service dept that specifically helps people with 3rd party websites but I would have to pay to speak with them. I declined. After being on the phone forever with customer service, I’m still having all of those issues. I told them I just want them to give me a new computer, but they said I missed their deadline for returning it, and I’ll have to just settle for sending it in to HP to do additional fixes.

I’m warning you, this product is junk. I did a LOT of research for several months, reading lots of customer reviews on multiple sites before buying this and it has been such a headache. I seriously regret buying this. Best Buy should not sell this computer or any other junkie products that HP tries to scam people with. Please take my advice, don’t by this piece of junk new or used. It will save you so much frustration. I will not buy another HP laptop again, and will warn others to steer clear of them as well. Some people may say you get what you pay for, but I bought an Asus laptop from Best Buy 4 years ago, for around the same price. It has a few annoying glitches, but it’s a solid laptop with a great sound system, that runs circles around this thing. If you can’t make a decent laptop under $500, then don’t sell junk to people, and then give them the run around through the tech support. This laptop was definitely a rip off. I wouldn’t hold out much hope for their other products, if this is the kind of stuff they sell. No more HP ever!
