HP Envy m6-ae151dx 15.6″ Touch-Screen Laptop – Intel Core i5, 6GB Memory, 1TB Hard Drive (Natural Silver)
The 15.6-inch HP Envy m6-ae151dx belongs to the premium-class Envy entertainment-oriented notebook series, but it lacks some of the high-end features. The m6-ae151dx does have a touch display, keyboard backlight, and a built-in subwoofer speaker, but it lacks Full HD or above screen resolution, IPS wide viewing angles, fast solid state drive-based storage, or dedicated video card options found on pricier Envy models.
Inside its “natural silver”-colored 0.9″ slim chassis, the 5.6-pound m6-ae151dx with 1366-by-768 screen resolution packs the mid-range 5th Generation Intel Core i5-5200U processor (reviewed here) with the Intel HD 5500 integrated graphics (review), a decent amount of system memory for everyday use – 6GB, and a capacious but slow 1-Terabyte 5,400rpm hard drive. The m6-ae151dx doesn’t have a built-in optical drive.
The svelte design is enhanced by an innovative display hinge which raises the keyboard deck at an angle when the laptop is opened. That enables a more comfortable typing and better cooling of the internals.
With a capacity of 55.5 WHr, the battery of the HP Envy m6 is quite beefy. However, there’s no info on battery life, but you can expect a decent power autonomy of more than five hours if you do light tasks with lowered screen brightness.
The rest of the specs includes a 720p web-chat camera, HDMI video output port, four USB 3.0 ports, 802.11AC Wi-Fi wireless networking support, Ethernet LAN jack for a wired network connection, Bluetooth, a memory card reader, and a combo audio headphones/mic port.
The HP Envy m6-ae151dx has a regular price of $679.99 which seems to be a little bit high for the given specs and features. But the same laptop will be on sale at Best Buy during Black Friday 2015. It will sell for only $479.00, which is a great deal.

I suppose I should have read my review before posting it, but I forgot to mention the internal display. It’s not great. It’s usable, but if you need more than basic web browsing use out of a computer, look for something with a 1080p (1920×1080) display. 1366×768 is awful, and it feels like a real black mark on something that I truly enjoy using. When I’m watching multimedia content (such as YouTube videos or Netflix shows), it really shows how bad the resolution is. Also, I do prefer matte displays (not glossy) like the Lenovo ThinkPads, so I may be a bit biased about the glossiness of this display.

Even at more than two years old, this laptop isn’t bad. I’ve upgraded mine with 8GB of RAM (not DDR3L like the unit came with, regular DDR3 SO-DIMMs I had worked fine) and a 1TB SSD. I had an issue with the battery about 3/4 of a year ago (the laptop said the battery was fully charged, but acted as though it had no battery in it), and HP was of no use in helping me to either replace the part or repair it, but eventually it started working again perfectly normally and I use it now for 5-6 hours every single day. If I forget my charger at home, I don’t worry. Linux Mint worked great on this laptop for a while (Mint+SSD=very fast and responsive), but I’ve moved my fleet of machines towards Windows 10 (Professional, not Home Edition). For what I paid for this laptop (nothing, it was a gift) and for what it’s given me, it’s wonderful. The only addition I could have wished for is a ThunderBolt port for easier use as a desktop, but I can more than make do with a nice USB 3 hub and the 10/100/1000 wired networking offered by this laptop. It’s a champ, and I’m glad I have it.

I bought this laptop for $479 at Best Buy’s Black Friday 2015 sale, and am very pleased with it, especially for the price. I like the display screen, keyboard, touch-pad, it’s good looking appearance, and it has the best internal laptop speakers I’ve ever heard. Decent power, speed, battery life, and storage for my Windows 10 applications and uses.
