HP Pavilion 17t (17t-g100 / 2015) 17.3″ Mainstream Laptop
The HP Pavilion 17t (17t-g100) is a 17.3-inch mainstream-class laptop with various component and chassis color choices. The Pavilion 17t is based on Intel’s computing technology, as opposed to AMD-powered 17z. In other aspects they’re the same.
The 17t series for 2015 comes with either the 5th Gen Intel Core i5-5200U and i7-5500U dual-core processor with the Intel HD 5500 integrated graphics or newer 6th Gen i5-6200U and i7-6500U with the Intel HD 520. Optionally customers can choose the dedicated Nvidia GeForce 940M 2GB dedicated video card in combination with the i7-6500U. The 940M performs similar to the 840M we reviewed here. Both the i5 and i7 can handle your daily tasks easily and can be additionally used for more demanding stuff like photo and video editing. The 6th Gen variants are only slightly faster than the 5th Gen, and also a bit more power-efficient. For seamless multitasking, the 17t provides from 6 to 16GB of system memory. As for storage, HP offers a 750GB, 1-Terabyte, and 2-Terabyte hard disk drive. Another option is a 1TB hybrid hard drive with improved performance over the standard HDD version.
The display has a resolution of 1600×900 or 1920×1080 pixels, depending on configuration. The later option also includes IPS wide viewing anglte technology, while both are offered with optional touchscreen support.
Other important features are a built-in DVD burner, optional keyboard backlight, stereo speakers, HP TureVision 720p web camera, 802.11N or newer and faster 802.11AC wireless network support, optional Bluetooth, Ethernet LAN network port, 2 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0, a multiformat media card reader, and a combo headphone/microphone audio jack.
Regarding design, the 17t combines a gray palmrest with finish resembling brushed metal. The lid and bottom are plain and are available in various colors – gray, white, blue, red, and violet purple.
The battery has a capacity of 41WHr.
The whole system weighs in at 6.2 pounds without touchscreen and 6.8 with it, which isn’t heavy for a 17.3-incher, but it’s still quite hefty for carrying around on daily basis. The chassis is 1.1″ thick.
The HP Pavilion 17t-g100 is available as a configurable notebook at the official HP Store. The same laptop but with AMD’s processors, the Pavilion 17z, is available too. Both the 17t and 17z can be found as the pre-configured HP Pavilion 17-g000 series in retail stores. If you want basically the same notebook in a smaller 15.6-inch form factor, you can check out the HP Pavilion 15t.

More than 4 hours on a mainstream 17.3″ laptop seems to be a quite decent battery life. You can try to further increase run time in various ways, but the most effective one is decreasing your screen brightness.
