Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101-X1 for $250 on Black Friday

Best Buy’s flagship tablet offer for Black Friday this year is the Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF101-X1.

Just like the Transformer TF101-A1, the TF101-X1 has a 10.1-inch multi-touch display and 16GB of internal memory. Differences between the TF101-A1, regulary sold for $400, and the TF101-X1 are currently unknown. However, there are speculations that the A1 and X1 are the same tablets with different SKUs, wheras the X1 suffix is used to mark the discounted price and avoid price comparisons with the same product sold elsewhere under the regular SKU.

  3. Many people are speculating whether the -X1 and -A1 are really the same exact product with just a different model number for Black Friday. This article is making the same assumption. While I hope that is the case, a careful comparison between the two descriptions on the Best Buy site show that the -X1 does not list the software, i.e., “Polaris Office and more”.
When I read reviews of this product, having the MS Office compatible software was the clincher for me. Without it I’m not as excited. However, I can always buy such software on my own later. A quick look at Polaris showed some people think you can’t get it in the open market, just via OEMs. If that’s the case, or maybe either way, Documents To Go is another option, which I already use on my Android phone (and used to use on my Handspring Visor years ago, so they’ve been around a while).
