Gateway NE56R48U

Gateway NE56R48U

The Gateway NE56R48U, selling for $300, is a typical Intel Pentium powered Windows 8 15.6-inch laptop with 4GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, DVD burner, and Intel HD integrated graphics. Outside, the laptop sports glossy plastics which is black on the lid and light gray on the palm rests. Other than logos, the NE56R48U has the same design as the Acer Aspire E1 series. That’s no wonder, since Gateway is actually Acer’s subsidiary.

Regarding performance, the B960 Pentium offers very similar speed to the B950 and B970, which is slightly lower than on an entry 2nd Genereration Core i3 chip. On the other side, the Pentiums easily beat AMD’s entry processors found in the ~$350 laptops. The battery life of the NE56R48U is up to 4.5 hours, according to Gateway.

In other aspects, the Gateway is a fully equipped laptop with stereo speakers, HDMI out, three USB ports, a memory card reader, and a 1.3MP web camera.

If you want more computing power and a larger 500GB hard drive, you should go for the Gateway NE56R49U model with an Intel Core i3 CPU and a $350 price tag.

    • No, this laptop doesn’t have HDMI input, it can only output video. Only some high-end gaming notebooks on the market, like select Alienware models, have HDMI-in. Can I ask you why do you want to do that?
