HP Envy x360 15-u111dx 15.6″ Convertible with Intel Core i7 CPU
The 15.6-inch 15-u111dx is one of the models from the HP Envy 15 x360 touchscreen convertible notebook series with a 360-degree rotating hinge and ability to act as a classic clamshell laptop, tablet, or a multimedia stand. The 15-u111dx is a higher-end configuration. It has a sharp 1920 x 1080 display resolution. It sports a fast Intel Core i7-5500U dual-core processor, the fastest available in the Envy 15 x360, as well as large system memory and data storage capacities of 12 and 1000 Gigabytes, respectively.
The built-in components ensure smooth operation in day-to-day use, although the included 1TB hard drive spins at slow 5,400rpm rotational speed and is much slower than solid state drive-based storage. The i7-5500U offers a great potential for advanced tasks requiring a great computing power, like photography and video editing, as well as entry-level gaming thanks to the Intel HD 5500 integrated graphics. The 12GB RAM can handle the heaviest multitasking scenarios. Unfortunately, hard drive, RAM, and battery are Authorized Service Provider parts, so they’re not user-replaceable. Accessing the parts which are sealed in the casing isn’t an easy task and replacing them can void the warranty.
The The 15-u111dx has a backlit keyboard with chiclet-style keys and a big trackpad based on HP Control Zone technology, which offers support for a wider range of gestures in Windows 8 than the normal trackpads. The keyboard and trackpad are surrounded by brushed aluminum, while the lid and the bottom of the notebook are made of plastics. On the top LCD bezel, there’s a Full HD web camera built-in. Stereo speakers backed by Beats Audio technology are located on the bottom side of the chassis. On the sides of it, clustered are an HDMI video port, three USBs, multi-format digital media card reader, a combo audio port, and Ethernet LAN network port. Wireless networking is provided by a Wi-Fi module with the latest 802.11AC standard support. The notebook is Bluetooth-enabled, but lacks Intel’s Wi-Di wireless display output technology found on some other 15 x360 configurations.
The battery has a capacity of 43.5 WHr, which is a mediocre one for the given screen size and processor. We have no info on battery life, but one should expect it to be around 5 hours.
The majority of users will find the 15-u111dx with a weight of 5.3 pounds and profile height of 0.9″ to be quite heavy and bulky as a tablet, but as a laptop it has an average weight and thickness.
